Election night in DC

The news of Barack Obama's victory in the 2008 Presidential election spread quickly through downtown Washington. Cars drove down the street honking their horns, fireworks were lit and people jumped for joy as an overwhelming sense of elation swept through the streets of our nation's capital.

A few images of the celebration in Chinatown are below...

UPDATE: I got the impression that the amount of people in Chinatown was small compared to some celebrations, but I didn't think it would pale in comparison. Impromptu gatherings on U Street and near the White House saw thousands of people -- which obviously made for some amazing pictures.

At first I thougth the dude in photo #1 was shooting a gun up in the air until I looked a bit closer.

Looks like it was quite the party down there in DC.
