Self-defense at the Washington YWCA

As I mentioned the other day, I spent Monday evening at the YWCA here in Washington photographing a women's self-defense class for I wasn't quite sure what to expect heading into it -- I really didn't know much about the class or it's curriculum, as I was basically asked to accompany a writer -- but I enjoyed the experience immensely and even learned a few things.

The third session of an 8-class course run by, Monday's lessons included how to respond to verbal harrassment on the street, in the workplace or wherever else someone may feel violated. It also touched on various everyday objects one could use to defend themselves, numerous positions one might find themselves in -- and how to get out of -- and general ways to combat someone who may have crossed the line, whether physically or verbally.
