DC's first annual Funk Parade

This weekend, my dSLR saw action for the first time in a long time. The occasion? DC's first (hopefully) annual Funk Parade. What was scheduled to be a short route along V Street turned into full-blown party by the time it wrapped through Ben Ali Way, effectively shutting down two blocks of U Street on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Led by the Ballou High School marching band, the parade was a participatory event much like New Orleans' famous Second Line parades. Hundreds of people joined the fun(k) while even more ogled from the sidelines, smiling and dancing along to a number of performers both scheduled and non.
